In my current work I use pattern as a vehicle for contemplation about a broad range of references and as a metaphor for an unseen, implicit order that underlies (and unifies) the disorder of the explicit world. Drawing from organic sources such as molecular structures, microscopic organisms, and macroscopic botanical life, and from various artifacts of high technology such as the patterns of pathways that make up computer chips and the gridded arrays of DNA sequencing, my work fuses the organic with the mechanical, the natural with the artificial, the ageless with the very new. By weaving together conflicting and often antithetical ideas into complex patterns and configurations, I strive to create psychological spaces for reflection in which new meaning-connections can be made and, ultimately, in which the interconnectedness of all phenomena becomes apparent.
